Ella’s Diary: Tales of A Sweet Bitter Love (4)

Xandro stayed true to his words or so it seems. He hasn’t made one complaint since Ella laid down the rules about six months ago.
‘Tess, I seriously don’t understand Xandro’, Ella confided in her best friend who also happens to be her personal assistant.
‘What has Xandro done this time? I thought everything has been okay since you gave him your piece of mind about six months ago.’
‘It is not like he has done anything. He has truly stayed true to his words. He hasn’t made a single complaint about my work or the hours I put into it. He no longer complains about my frequent travelling and all. To top it all he calls my mobile anytime I travel just to check on me. Sometimes, he even arrange for my flights and all. In short, he has done nothing but do what I requested that he do but I am just not comfortable’, she explained to Tess.
‘Well, I really don’t know what to say because I expect you to be happy. The way I see it, Xandro is only complying with your rules, so why exactly are you complaining? Or do you think he is cheating on you?’, Tess asked quizzically
‘Oh, he is not cheating on me’, she responded quickly, ‘he still comes home as early as he does since we got married. When I am home, he doesn’t even go out and when I am not at home, he goes home straight from work. To be sincere, I actually hired a private investigator about four months ago’, she said in a low voice.
‘Why will you hire a private investigator?’

‘When I discovered that he was not complaining about my work again and all, I thought he was probably having an affair. I got this private investigator to spy on him 24/7, I even bugged his phone including his office phone but he was found to be clean. The PI even told me I wasting my time and money. So I am sure he is not. More so, I don’t think he can ever do that to me. He is understanding and compromising’, her lips curved in a tiny smile as she confided further in her friend.
Tess opened her mouth in amazement. She couldn’t believe Ella had gone to that extent. She stared at her and shook her head in pity.
‘Tess, why are looking at me like you are going to bore a hole in my body? What is the problem?’, she questioned her carefully. ‘Or do really think he is having an affair?’
‘You, my dear friend is the problem and I sincerely know that Xandro is not having an affair, at least for now’, she replied sharply and Ella gaped at her in wonder. She has never known Tess to talk to her in that manner.
‘What do you mean by that? I just told you I am worried about Xandro and yet you say I am the problem’
‘The only reason Xandro won’t cheat on you is because he loves you more than you will ever understand or know. It’s like you can’t even see it but everyone else around you does and that is why I think that despite the fact that you’ve given him one thousand and one reaaons to cheat on you, he hasn’t and most likely won’t…’
‘What do…’, Ella tried to interrupt but Tess continued as if she had not talked.
‘You talk about compromise and understanding in marriage, but I think it is you who doesn’t know what these words mean and it is you who also needs to imbibe these virtues. Ella, take a moment and ask yourself, since you married Xandro how much understanding have you showed in your marriage and how many times have you compromised. It is you who always request that he understands you and compromise just for your sake. What have you sacrificed for him and for your marriage? He demands nothing from you and yet he gives everything. The only thing he ever demanded from you was your time. But what did you do? You blackmailed him using the love he has for you against him. It’s not like he is asking you to stop working, he even played a great role in getting you to this position but you are so obsessed with work. There are so many people who you can delegate your work to, not because you are being lazy but because that is why they were employed in the first place. You’ve done nothing but relieve them of their duties and under utilized them. You are so obsessed with your work but you can’t even see that you are about to lose what matters to you most – your husband. If something happens to you, don’t even think this company will stop running for a second, you will be replaced as fast as a lightning. If he can compromise because he loves you, then you should be able to do the same. Stop taking him for granted, many ladies will do anything to have a husband like Xandro. If you truly want your marriage to work, then start acting like yo mean it’, Tess finally concluded her admonishment and by the time she finished Ella was close to tears. Tess walked to where was standing and hugged her warmly. She sobbed silently on her best friend’s shoulder. She finally realised her foolishness and she felt ashamed of her behaviour. She hated herself for being so selfish and cold towards Xandro. She has wasted almost a year fighting a useless battle. She realised that the only enemy was herself, her pride.
‘I am so grateful Tess and I am indebted to you for everything’, she told Tess after she had managed to compose herself a little.
‘It’s nothing Ella, I am more sorry I didn’t talk to you earlier. I thought you were going to see how wrong you were and how I have been covering up for your lapses at work since you laid down your rules six months ago because you were unhappy and it was affecting work’, she told her playfully.
Tess was right, she hasn’t been truly happy since then but she had tried dismissing the feeling. She couldn’t stop missing Xandro and wondering if she did the right thing. In fact, she almost lost a multimillion dollars contract, which would have cost her her job but Xandro had stepped in and saved her.

She picked her bag and her coat up. ‘Tess, I really appreciate you for everything and I promise you a raise for covering up for me but for now, I need to go home and make amends with Xandro because I really can’t do without him. I just hope he is still waiting for me’, she turned to Tess before opening the door.
Tess smiled and said, ‘ Genuine love goes no where, Xandro will definitely be waiting. He gave you his heart a long time ago.’

Dear reader,
Thanks for reading the final part of Ella’s Diary. I am sorry it is coming late. I had to shrink the story so that it would end in this part (since I earlier said four parts). I love you for sticking with Ella’s Diary to the very end.
I sincerely hope that you find that one love like no other and that when you do, you don’t lose it.
You will definitely be seeing more of Ella, Xandro and the thoughtful Tess in subsequent stories.

Love you as always 🙂

Ella’s Diary: Tales Of A Sweet Bitter Love(3)

While Ella waited for Xandro to come home from work, she was silently hoping that he will come back late, so that she would have a reason to start the lecture- something to use as an opening. Heaven must have refused to listen to her silent prayers because before she even finished the prayer, she heard Xandro parking his car in the garage.
Ella was angry that Xandro has taken her grand opening from her.
Xandro entered the house full of smiles, she tried to smile back but Xandro knew something was wrong and asked her what she wanted to talk about.
‘I just felt we should review our marriage’, she said calmly. Her voice was devoid of emotions. One would have thought she was talking to one of her staff.
Xandro looked at her for about a minute before replying, ‘Ella, I was looking forward to a better welcome but it seems like I won’t be getting that. So what is it we need to review’, he asked carefully.

‘I need you to listen carefully to all I have to say. This marriage is not going as I expected. I am totally sad and miserable…’
‘Ella, before you go on I need to be sure of something. I also agree that this marriage has taken a yabaleft turning but I want to know if I am the one making you miserable and if yes, what have I ever done?’
Ella was dumb for a few seconds but she quickly recovered. She had not expected Xandro to reply her calmly and with such answer.
‘Xandro, you simply don’t understand me. You won’t even compromise on anything. You are kind of trying to change me into who I am and trying to destroy everything I have ever worked for all my life’
‘Ella, something tells me that this discussion is not actually about our marriage but your work. Am I right?’ Xandro’s eyes searched Ella’s eyes carefully.
Ella felt like he could read into her mind and even to the deepest places of her soul where her insecurities and doubts laid. This made her furious, ‘Oh, you really think you’ve worked it all out, right? Like you know me better than anyone. So what if it is about my job, this marriage has done nothing but hinder my job. You want me to leave my job because of you, everything I have worked for just because I love you?, Ella questioned Xandro tauntingly with her voice so raised that a deaf man would receive a fast healing.
‘Ella, I love you so much and I love what you do. I wouldn’t even think of taking that away from you but all I ask for is that you place us, our marriage and me above your work, just like I place you above everything. You need to learn how to make compromise…’
Ella interrupted before Xandro could finish his calm reply, ‘it is you who needs to learn how to compromise. It is you who need to know that there is something called understanding. I want to work like I use to do before I got married, how difficult can that be for a sharp guy like you to understand? I never asked you to reduce your working hours or place me and our marriage before your job. You decided to do so, don’t expect the same from me Xandro’, she replied coldly.

The tension around them was so hot that a pot of beans would have been cooked in less than five minutes.
‘What exactly are you afraid of Ella? I think you don’t trust me, you are afraid I would disappoint or hurt you. I can’t promise that you won’t be hurt in our marriage but I have promised and told you times without number that I will never knowingly hurt you. Trust me dearie’, he pleaded.

Ella refused to say anything. Something told her Xandro was right but another voice told her not to be beguiled. When Xandro discovered that Ella wouldn’t reply. He broke the silence. ‘Ella, what exactly do you want? What do you want me to do? Ask for anything but not a divorce, because I swore before God and a whole congregation to stay with you till death do us part and it is only six months or thereabout. We still have a long way to go.’

‘Don’t be silly Xandro’, Ella replied with a little smile tugging her lips,’I don’t want a divorce, I love you and you know it. All that I ask for is that you leave me alone and let me do my job like I used to do before we got married. You know, a little compromise and understanding is all i ask for and I promise you won’t regret it dear’, she added affectionately.
‘Ella, I wish you truly know what compromise and understanding means in marriage. I can only hope you don’t regret this. But I will give you what you want if that it what will make you happy. You can travel as many times as you want and stay at work for as long as you want. I will always be here for you, or at least I hope so’, Xandro replied her.

Ella was so happy and she hugged Xandro so tight that he could barely breath.
‘I love you so much Xandro. I knew you would understand. I know you will always be here for me.’

A tiny voice asked her how she could be so sure Xandro would always be there for her. She dismissed the thought and savoured her victory.

Thanks for dropping by again. Ella definitely got what she wanted. She is one determined woman. But you have to read the last part on Thursday to know if she truly got what she wanted.

Ella’s Diary: Tales of A Sweet Bitter Love (2)

Ella wakes up still furious and mad. Her short trip to the dreamland didn’t help, she probably must have taken a wrong turn and landed somewhere else. If she thought she was going to be feeling better when she wakes up then she is probably going to sleep the whole day.

It’s like Bruno Mars’ laziness has got to her because she definitely doesn’t feel like doing a thing. Thinking about her marriage alone is draining mentally and physically.

The genesis of it all is her job. Xandro knows how much she loves her job, in fact he encouraged her to be hardworking and even helped her connect to high profiled people and that is why she doesn’t understand why Xandro had to be complaining about her job so much. It is not easy to be the Managing Director of an oil company, so many responsibilities and expectations, especially when you are a woman. Xandro of all people ought to understand this, but no, he is not understanding at all. He started complaining about the way she travels a lot both within and outside Nigeria. His complaints were that she doesn’t have time for him, she is obsessed with her work and all. As far as Ella is concerned, Xandro is just making unnecessary nagging and being unreasonable. How can he expect her to sit down and not travel as her job demands? She is the Managing Director of a multimillion dollars oil company and to be serious, the pay is good. The pay is heaven. Where is she suppose to get such kind of pay if she sits at home pampering her nagging husband.

Though Xandro has told her times without number to trust him and that all her needs will be provided for adequately, still, she can’t bring herself to believe him. Xandro is the CEO of quite a number of multimillion dollars companies. He is rich like that but Ella still believes he can’t provide for all her needs.
She leaves home for work as early as six in the morning and gets back around ten at night. This has always been her working pattern even before she married so why should she change it now. She knows she can delegate to her staff but she prefers to do her work herself for fear of something going wrong.

The bottom line as far as Ella is concerned is that Xandro is unreasonable. Xandro, since their marriage has reduced his work hours, because according to him, he wants to spend more time at home with her.

Initially, Xandro didn’t complain so much. But, his complaints has escalated recently. Is not like she doesn’t cook for him, well, technically the maid does the cooking because of her own busy schedule but the bottom line is that she tells the maid what to cook, so in a way she does the cooking.

If Xandro thinks she is just going to trust in him to provide all her needs and reduce her working hours, he must be related to Joseph, because he is definitely dreaming. She doesn’t know how to trust and she can’t learn it now, so Xandro needs to understand that and learn how to compromise and accept her for who she is.
Or isn’t that what marriage is all about, trust, understanding and compromise? If Xandro really loves her as he claims he still does despite the mess they are going through then he will have to do these things.

So, when he gets back from work, they are going to have a lengthy discussion on this. Or, better still, it is going to be a lecture. She will lecture him on these basic principles of marriage. It is either or….

Hello there again, thanks for coming back to read part two of this story. Ella is definitely planning to have a lengthy discussion with Xandro, so I think you should take a tea break before this mighty discussion or lecture of the century takes place.
So make it a date with Ella’s Diary next Monday.
Before then, you can drop your comments and tell me of what you think about the whole issue, considering Ella’s attitude.

One very sure thing is that, I love you all. 🙂
